Ms. Tara Hixson, M.Ed. is a Technical Assistance Provider for the Center for Global Health Practice and Impact at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She is a public health professional with nearly two decades of experience in HIV treatment and prevention, providing support to Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) recipients nationwide.
Ms. Hixson began her career in global health as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand from 2007 to 2009, where she oversaw PEPFAR-funded youth education programs. She later worked with communities in rural Uganda on initiatives focused on reducing HIV-related stigma and increasing access to treatment. In the United States, she spent eight years at Denver Health’s HIV Primary Care Clinic and Public Health Institute, serving as a Program Coordinator and Disease Intervention Specialist. In these roles, she provided one-on-one patient navigation and managed HRSA Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program-funded interventions to improve linkage to and retention in care. Ms. Hixson also served as an advisor and author for the CDC’s Rapid Antiretroviral Therapy Toolkit and as a member of the Denver HIV Resources Planning Council. Prior to joining Georgetown, she served as a Project Officer for Ryan White Part A grant recipients in the Southern Region with the HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau.
Ms. Hixson holds a Master of Education in Health Promotion and International Development from the University of London and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and History from Arizona State University.
