Background

The Gender Programming and Health Equities Senior Advisor will be working at large on a global project supporting five countries (number and names of countries to be confirmed at time of award) to strengthen the capabilities of host country governments and non-governmental organizations to plan, manage, and monitor sustainable programs and systems to respond to HIV, TB, and other diseases and conditions of public health concern. As countries reach HIV epidemic control, a key priority is sustaining low levels of HIV incidence while supporting greater country ownership and management, facilitating the transition of programs to local oversight, and strengthening financial, operational, technical, and programmatic controls.

Purpose of the Position
The Senior Advisor will lead the application of improvement of health equities services interventions to ensure gender equity across the provision of HIV, TB, and other priority health areas. This position will collaborate with the program and technical teams to drive continuous gender equity improvements through strategically selected and executed improvement initiatives for programmatic as well as clinical outcomes at patient and population levels. The position will train, coach, and mentor program personnel, facility staff, and other front-line service providers as appropriate in the application of gender and health equity to achieve desired improvements in program outcomes. In addition, the Advisor will support healthcare providers and health managers to ensure gender initiatives drive desired health equity outcomes. S/He will report to the Principal Investigator.

Specific Responsibilities (included but not limited to)
In your role as Senior CQI Advisor you will:

  • Work collaboratively with the technical team to promote a gender lens to health equity approaches across the program
  • Manage a broad range of strategic and tactical activities related to the identification, development, and implementation of gender and health equity initiative
  • Manage data collection, analysis, and reporting to support the implementation of gender and health equity intervention
  • Train and mentor program personnel and facility site multi-disciplinary teams to adopt gender and health equity
  • Maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders including CSOs, Ministries of Health, key populations, donors, and other key stakeholders as necessary
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or Epidemiology
  • Related degree or certificate in gender studies desired

Experience & Skills

  • 8 years of experience promoting gender and health equity, preferably in an HIV, TB, and general public health space
  • Experience working across different levels of country program implementation – national, sub-national, communities
  • Proven ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including government representatives, non-profit associations, donors, media, academic and research institutes, and other stakeholders
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
