Background
The Civil Society Engagement Lead will be working at large on a global project supporting five countries (number and names of countries to be confirmed at time of award) to strengthen the capabilities of host country governments and non-governmental organizations to plan, manage, and monitor sustainable programs and systems to respond to HIV, TB, and other diseases and conditions of public health concern. As countries reach HIV epidemic control, a key priority is sustaining low levels of HIV incidence while supporting greater country ownership and management, facilitating the transition of programs to local oversight, and strengthening financial, operational, technical, and programmatic controls.
Purpose of the Position
The Civil Society Engagement Lead will work with key civil society stakeholders to generate and strengthen accountability, public participation, and sustained success across HIV, TB, and other priority health services. S/He will lead related stakeholder engagement and advocacy campaigns. S/He will be responsible for engaging with leaders in civil society to improve accountability for results, strengthen standards, and challenge the norms around HIV, TB, and other health priority areas with the goal of improving health outcomes at all population levels. S/He will report to the Principal Investigator.
Specific Responsibilities (included but not limited to)
In your role as Civil Society Engagement Lead you will:
- Manage, supervise, coordinate, and provide technical leadership to support the project’s civil society strengthening and outreach efforts and ensure that all activities and deliverables are of high quality, on schedule, and reach project objectives and targets
- Oversee and provide technical leadership and design of project interventions to engage the public (including key populations and adolescent and young populations), the mass media, and civil society organizations in HIV, TB, and other health priority area education and service provision information
- Provide technical input to and oversight of the grants program including development of the technical requirements and proposal evaluation
- Build capacity between Ministries of Health and Civil Society for trust in related health provision programs,
- Maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders including CSOs, Ministries of Health, key populations, donors, and other key stakeholders as necessary
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, or related
Experience & Skills
- 5 years of work experience in civil society engagement in public health, preferably in the HIV, TB, and other health priority space
- 5 years of demonstrated professional experience in projects of similar size or complexities
- Experience working across different levels of country program implementation – national, sub-national, communities
- Extensive familiarity with Quality/Process improvement tools and methodologies
- Proven ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including government representatives, non-profit associations, donors, media, academic and research institutes, and other stakeholders
- Fluent in written and spoken English
